Most new condos and townhomes in the region are sold before they're built. Buying early can mean a better pick of units and floor plans, and time to save while the building goes up. It also means waiting, and committing to a home you haven't seen finished, so the project and the developer matter.
We follow new launches in Surrey City Centre, along the Fraser Highway corridor, in Willoughby and around Metrotown and Brentwood in Burnaby, and we'll give you a straight answer on whether a project fits your plans.

Yes, within a limited window. Under BC's Real Estate Development Marketing Act, presale buyers can cancel within 7 days of signing the contract or receiving the developer's disclosure statement, whichever is later. After that, the contract is binding.
It varies by project. Many presales ask for 5% to 20% of the price, often paid in instalments before completion. Always check the deposit schedule in the contract and the disclosure statement.
Often, through an assignment, but some developers restrict assignments or charge a fee, and assignments have their own tax and reporting rules in BC. Read the assignment clause before you buy; we'll go through it with you.
